The Twillingate Islands ( French Toulinquet ) are an archipelago in Notre Dame Bay in northeast Newfoundland . They belong to the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador . The main town is Twillingate . There is a direct road connection with the main island of Newfoundland via dams.
The first demonstrable Indian settlement of the islands can be estimated at approx. 3500 years (1500 BC). It was not until the 17th century that the Beothuken and French settled it further.
