Lists on the subject |
The torpedo from the Type 65 in his version 65-76 Kit ( Russian Кит for Wal) with a conventional warhead is a standard weapon of Russian submarines to over-water units. The primary targets are large combat ships such as aircraft carriers, which the torpedo is designed to detect and attack through its system for detecting and tracking wake currents. In contrast to the usual standard diameter of 533 mm, it is an enlarged torpedo with a diameter of 650 mm, which is only used in this type by Russia. The torpedo is part of the standard equipment of the newer submarines, the launch tubes of which are often equipped with conversion rails in order to be able to use the older Type 53 torpedoes .
It is believed that the explosion of the fuel from such a torpedo caused the sinking of the Kursk .
