The Type 63 is a main battle tank manufactured in the People's Republic of China .

history

Before the People's Republic of China and the Soviet Union had political differences with one another, there was a lively exchange of raw materials as well as war material. The Chinese copied the design of several vehicles. The Chinese Type 63 is a mix of two Soviet tanks, the PT-76 light amphibious tank and the T-55 standard medium tank . According to the Sino-Soviet doctrine, the vehicle is extremely light, manoeuvrable and, above all, buoyant.

The Type 63 was introduced mainly in third world countries. These include Sudan , Pakistan , North Korea and Vietnam . In the 1990s, a successor model was developed, which was named Type 63A and represents a significantly improved version in terms of armor and armament.

technology

Undercarriage, roller construction, chassis and armor have been taken over from the PT-76. Chain aprons are not provided on this vehicle. The tank has an 85 mm cannon . A 7.62 mm MG is mounted coaxially . A tower-mounted 12.7 mm machine gun is used for air defense. Buoyancy is guaranteed by setting up a frontal surge board . When driving in the water, it is driven by a water jet engine , with which the vehicle reaches 12.5 km / h.
