Basic version

The multi-purpose ship type CL 18 of Howaldtswerke in Kiel was built in four units.

history

The series was designed by Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft in the late 1970s and built four times in 1978/79. The ships of the series were ordered by the Hamburg shipping companies FA Detjen and Bugsier-, Reederei- und Bergungsgesellschaft . The name of the ship type is derived from the abbreviations "CL" for container liner and "18" for 18,000 tons of load capacity. The ships have three hatches that are closed with hydraulic folding hatch covers. According to the wishes of the client, Velle or Stülcken loading gear, cranes and various two-stroke diesel main engines (MAN 6SZ70 / 125 BL or Sulzer 6RND68M) were used within the series. In addition to transporting containers, the ships were also suitable for general cargo and dry bulk cargoes.

With the Moselle , container handling began on July 2, 1983 in Bluff, New Zealand.
