Tzijolaj

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tzijolaj Horse Dance is a dance performed by Quiché fraternities on the feast of St. Thomas in Chichicastenango .

Tzijolaj is a syncretism of James the Elder with the pre-Columbian Tepeu (messenger of prayers). He symbolizes the Bacchus - theme to celebrate the ability festivals, which is partially underlined by the fact that the equestrian figure is decorated with silver coins.
