The Bratislava Metro (Slovakian Bratislavské metro ) was to be built in Bratislava (Slovakia). The project came to a standstill in 1989 shortly after construction work began.

history

The subway was planned for two lines. The Blue Line was supposed to run from the Devínska Nová Ves district in northwest Bratislava via today's Volkswagen plant (at that time the Bratislava Automobile Plant ) and the city center to the Rača district . The red line was supposed to run from Petržalka in the south via the city center to Letisko Milana Rastislava Štefánika airport .

The construction work started in 1989 ended when the Velvet Revolution took place shortly afterwards in what was then Czechoslovakia . Then there was no money to continue building the subway. The construction project was tried again until 2003, but without success.

The buildings on the Blue Line still exist today and are not used.
