UKA is a cultural festival in Trondheim , Norway . It takes place every two years and is mainly organized by students on a voluntary basis. It is Norway's largest and oldest festival and has been held since 1917. UKA stands for week, even if the event now lasts significantly longer.

An Oktoberfest has been part of the program since 2000 . At the 2015 edition, 4,000 students celebrated, often in lederhosen and dirndls.

The UKA 2015 took place from September 30th to October 25th. At the concert of the headliner Major Lazer there were over 6000 visitors in the marquee.

The UKA 2017 took place from October 5th to 29th.

Relay world record

For the 60th anniversary in 1977, the Trondheim student sports club Norges Tekniske Høgskoles Idrettsforening ( NTHI ) came up with the idea of holding a relay race parallel to the UKA cultural festival with the aim of setting world records. After over 1600 participants had run for 33 days without a break and covered a total of 9600 km, three world records were set: 1) the longest continuous sporting event, 2) the most participants in a team and 3) the longest distance covered by a relay team.

At the centenary, the idea was taken up again in 2017 by the Sports Association of the Technical and Natural Sciences University of Norway ( NTNUI ). From October 5th to the final day on November 12th, 10,039 km were covered in 1803 stages on 37 days, and more than 91,000 kroner in entry and donation money were collected for the international development aid  organization Right To Play .
