Arthur Höltge

Arthur Höltge (born February 17, 1932 in Sankt Andreasberg ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Peru , Bolivia and Colombia .

Life

Höltge, the son of a painter's journeyman and a domestic servant, completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter at the Salbke Reichsbahn repair shop in Magdeburg . He then studied at the German Administration Academy in Forst Zinna and graduated in 1953 with a degree in political science.

From 1953 he was a member of the diplomatic service of the GDR. Until 1958 he worked as a country officer in the Capitalist Abroad Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). In 1958 he became third secretary at the GDR embassy in Beijing . In 1961 he returned to the MfAA and became country officer for South America . From 1966 to 1969 he worked as the deputy head of the GDR commercial agency in Rio de Janeiro . From 1969 to 1973 he was Deputy Head of the Latin America Department at the MfAA. After the GDR had established diplomatic relations with Brazil , he was appointed chargé d'affaires at the embassy in Brasília in November 1973 , where he served as counselor from 1974 to 1977 . He then worked until 1980 as a sector manager for policy issues in Latin America at the MfAA. From December 2, 1980 to October 1985, he held the post of GDR ambassador in Lima , and from December 1982 to October 1985 he was also second-accredited in Bolivia. When he returned to the MfAA, he again took on the role of sector manager for policy issues in Latin America until 1989. From November 1989 to September 1990 he was the last ambassador of the GDR in Bogotá .

Höltge was a member of the SED .
