Karlheinz Möbus

Karlheinz Möbus (born February 1, 1938 in Steinigtwolmsdorf , † August 4, 2014 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat . He was the ambassador of the German Democratic Republic in Colombia, Cuba and Jamaica.

Life

Karlheinz Möbus attended elementary schools in Steinigtwolmsdorf , Bautzen and Dresden . After attending secondary school, he obtained his Abitur in Karl-Marx-Stadt in 1956 . In 1956 he began studying foreign policy at the Institute for International Relations of the German Academy for Political Science and Law , which he graduated in 1960 with a degree in political science. After completing his studies, he became an employee at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). Until 1963 he worked as a consultant or senior consultant in the 6th non-European department (Latin America) as well as in the departments of fundamental questions and international organizations. From 1963 to 1967 he was an attaché , or third secretary, head of the consular department at the embassy in Havana / Cuba and then worked again as second secretary and sector manager for South Latin America in the Latin America department of the MfAA. From 1971 to 1973 he was first secretary or counselor at the embassy in Santiago de Chile . After returning from Chile , he was entrusted with the formation of the Chile Committee at the Solidarity Committee of the GDR and until 1981 was head of the Chile working group in the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the SED to look after Chilean emigrants living in the GDR. From 1981 to 1982 he attended a one-year course at the Karl Marx party college in Berlin . From December 1982 to 1986 he worked as ambassador, first in Bogotá / Colombia and then, until 1990, in Havana, and at the same time was second-accredited in Kingston (Jamaica) . From 1990 to 1991 he completed retraining as a foreign trade merchant and worked as a foreign trader at GEMEX-Handels-GmbH in Frankfurt am Main . From 1993 to 1997 he was an independent sales representative in Chile.

Möbus was a member of the SED .
