Joachim Naumann

Joachim Naumann (born May 10, 1929 in Wahnsdorf ; † December 16, 2019 in Berlin ) was a German diplomat . He was the ambassador of the German Democratic Republic in Cuba , Mexico and Venezuela .

Life

After passing the Abitur, Joachim Naumann began studying at the Institute for International Relations at the German Academy for Political Science and Law in 1951, graduating in 1953 with a degree in political science. 1967 received his doctorate from the party college "Karl Marx" for Dr. phil and studied at this SED educational institution from 1973 to 1974.

From 1953 Naumann worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From 1954 to 1956 he was the personal assistant to State Secretary Georg Ulrich Handke and worked from 1957 to 1960 first as 2nd, then as 1st secretary at the embassy in the People's Republic of China , then until 1962 as deputy head of the commercial agency in Guinea and from 1962 to 1963 as a representative of the government of the GDR in Laos . From 1963 to 1967 he headed the Latin America department (6th non-European department). From 1967 to 1973 he was ambassador to Cuba , then from 1974 to 1982 again head of department for Latin America. From 1983 to 1988 he was ambassador to Mexico with second accreditations in Costa Rica and Panama . From 1989 to 1990 he was the GDR's ambassador to Venezuela .

Achim Naumann was a member of the SED . He died on December 16, 2019 in Berlin.
