Helmut Bauermeister

Helmut Bauermeister (born April 24, 1927 in Sangerhausen ; † 1989 ) was a German economic functionary of the SED and ambassador of the German Democratic Republic in Cuba and Ecuador .

Life

Bauermeister, son of a working-class family, attended elementary and vocational school and learned the trade of industrial clerk. After an apprenticeship, Bauermeister earned his Abitur at a workers 'and farmers' faculty , then studied economics at the Universities of Halle, Leipzig and Berlin with a degree in economics. From 1951 to 1958 he was an employee and later head of the main department planning of the workforce in the State Planning Commission of the GDR. From 1958 to 1961 he was head of the planning department and deputy chairman of the economic council of the Leipzig district . Between 1961 and 1971 he was chairman of the district planning commission and deputy chairman of the council of the Leipzig district. From 1967 to 1971 Bauermeister was also a member of the secretariat of the SED district leadership in Leipzig. In 1970 he worked for a time as head of the Leipzig District Energy Commission.

From 1971 to 1972 he attended a course to prepare for the diplomatic service and in 1972 began his work in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR . From 1972 to 1973 he was second secretary at the embassy in Santiago de Chile , then from 1973 to March 1975 he worked as ambassador in Havana and from November 1975 to August 1979 as ambassador in Quito . After leaving the diplomatic service, he became economic director and deputy director general of VEB Brühlpelz in Leipzig.
