Harry Spindler

Harry Spindler (born April 9, 1931 , † 1992 ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Chile , Cuba , Jamaica , Grenada and Spain .

Life

Spindler was born into a working-class family. He learned the trade of baker and confectioner . Spindler was a member of the SED and from 1950 to 1952 an FDJ functionary in Saxony . From 1953 to 1958 he studied foreign policy and international relations at the Moscow State Institute for International Relations . He completed his studies with a degree in political science. In 1977 he graduated as Dr. phil.

From 1959 to 1964 Spindler worked in the International Relations Department of the Central Committee of the SED and from 1964 worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA). From 1965 to 1967 he worked as a commercial attaché and from 1970 to 1971 as head of the representation of the Chamber for Foreign Trade of the GDR in Santiago de Chile . From 1971 to 1973 he was ambassador to Chile and then deputy head of the Latin America department at the MfAA. From 1979 to 1983 he was ambassador to Havana , from 1980 to Jamaica and from 1981 also accredited to Grenada. From February 1986 to October 1990 he was ambassador to Madrid .
