Heinz Langer (diplomat)

Heinz Langer (born June 27, 1935 in Schwarzheide ) is a former German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in Cuba , Guyana and Jamaica .

Life

Langer, son of a working-class family, learned the profession of lathe operator and in 1953 worked as a skilled worker in the VEB lignite works in Lauchhammer-Ost . From 1953 to 1956 he attended the workers and farmers faculty in Leipzig and Halle (Saale) . In 1956 he graduated from high school . He then studied until 1962 at the Institute for International Relations in Moscow , specializing in " Latin America ".

From 1962 he worked in the Latin America department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA), Brazil sector . In 1964/65 he was an attaché at the GDR embassy in Havana . He then worked from 1965 to 1969 as sector manager for Chile , Argentina and Brazil in the 6th non-European department of the MfAA. From 1969 to 1973 he was deputy head or acting head of the GDR commercial agency in Rio de Janeiro . From 1973 to 1975 he was Sector Head Latin America in the International Relations Department at the Central Committee of the SED . From May 1975 to June 1979 and from June 1983 to April 1986 Langer was ambassador of the GDR in Cuba, from 1975 to 1979 he was second accredited as ambassador in Guyana and from 1977 to June 1979 and from April 1984 to 1986 second accredited in Jamaica. From 1979 to 1981 he was secretary of the SED district leadership in the MfAA, from 1986 in the internal information department of the MfAA. In 1989 he was director of the office for the GDR cultural centers abroad.

Langer has been leading group trips to Cuba with a political education and contact program since 1990 and is active in the friendship society BRD-Cuba and a member of the German Communist Party .

Langer was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit in bronze in 1985.

Langer lives as a pensioner in Berlin.
