Werner Hänold

Werner Hänold (born July 26, 1929 in Saalfeld ; † September 22, 2007 ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador to Brazil , Guyana and Suriname .

Life

After graduating from high school, Hänold studied from 1949 to 1952 at the German Administrative Academy in Forst Zinna and at the University of Leipzig . In 1973 he received his doctorate at the Humboldt University of Berlin to Dr. rer. oec.

Between 1952 and 1956 he taught as a lecturer in finance at the College of Foreign Trade in Plessow . From 1956 to 1960 he worked first as deputy, then as head of the GDR commercial agency in Lebanon . From 1960 to 1967 he was Director General of the Trade with Latin America Department in the Ministry for Foreign and Inner German Trade in the GDR. From 1968 to 1973 he headed the GDR commercial agency in the Colombian capital Bogotá . From 1972 to 1984 he was head of the Overseas Division II (from 1974 Latin America Department) in the Ministry of Foreign Trade of the GDR. From 1984 to 1990 he was ambassador to Brazil and second accredited in Guyana and Suriname.

Hänold was a member of the SED .
