The UNESCO Middle School Bürs is a UNESCO school that offers the New Middle School .
Architecture and buildings
The Unesco school has been housed in the new building since the 2013/14 school year. There is a separate studio and in the technical work area there are work rooms for wood, clay and metal. The classrooms are equipped with computer equipment and interactive whiteboards. All-day care is provided by professional kitchen equipment with a dining room.
The middle school Bürs belongs to the network of ecological schools in Austria and is committed to certain ecological and sustainable standards. This was made possible by a renovation, as a result of which a large part of the building erected in 1967 was demolished and replaced by a new building in 2013/2014. A thermal renovation was carried out according to the latest thermal standards. The heating takes place via district heating . There is also a photovoltaic system for generating electricity on the roof.
Educational work, equipment and offers
Since the 1995/96 school year, the school has been working with open forms of learning, internal differentiation, alternative assessment through workbooks and the integration of children with special needs. The pedagogy of the school is interspersed with many elements of reform pedagogues that have been adapted to the needs of our time. The school's work focuses on the new school climate, peace, human rights and democracy, internationalization, new media, world heritage and world cultural heritage. Another focus is on social learning through the weekly class council and an early social phase every morning. The model character and the special educational attitude of the school climate for students and teachers has led to the school being part of the worldwide network of Unesco schools since 1996. Lunch and afternoon care are part of the holistic education. Since the 2008/09 school year, the school has been participating in the "New Vorarlberger Mittelschule" model. The UNESCO Middle School Bürs has eight classes between the fifth and eighth grade with 173 pupils (as of 2014/15).
Awards
In 2007 the school was named School of the Month for January 2007 as part of a cooperation between the Wiener Zeitung and the Federal Ministry for Education and Art.
In 2011 the school was nominated for the Austrian School Prize.
In 2011/2012 she was awarded the IV-TEACHER'S AWARD.
MS Bürs received an award in the 2016/17 school year for its achievements in digital and IT education.
