URBAN II

URBAN II is an EU funding program (community initiative). After the first URBAN program (also URBAN I) for the funding period 1994–1999, it was adopted as Urban II in the period 2000–2006. It is intended to improve inner cities and their urban situation with non-structural measures. It is used to promote cities with over 20,000 inhabitants that have problems with high unemployment , crime or pollution .

Not only investment measures are funded, but also institutions for the education and qualification of people. Neighborhood management initiatives are also supported . The exchange between the actors in the participating cities is to be promoted in congresses and workshops. In Germany , 12 cities take part in the program.
