The US Embassy in Budapest is the seat of the diplomatic mission of the United States of America (USA) in Hungary . An old building on Szabadság tér has served as the office since 1935 . The building was built in 1899 for the Hungarian Chamber of Commerce. It changed hands several times. Cardinal József Mindszenty had also fled to the American embassy, which offered him refuge until 1971; his former apartment now serves as the ambassador's office.

Former TV producer Colleen Bell has been the ambassador since 2015 . Her predecessor was Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis.
