The Universidad San Francisco de Quito ( USFQ ) is a private university in Quito .

It was founded in 1980 by Santiago Gangotena González, but was not officially registered as such until June 28, 1985 . On September 1, 1988 , the university opened its doors to the 130 students enrolled at the time. In 2012 it had approximately 4,000 undergraduate students and 430 postgraduate students .

The seat of the private university is in the east of Quito , in the valley of Cumbayá .

Until 2005, the former President of Ecuador Rafael Correa was Professor and Director of the Department of Economics at that university.
