Univerzitní Sportovní Klub Praha ( German University Sports Club Prague ; USK Prague for short ) is a Czech basketball club from Prague . He is part of the SK Slavia Prague club, known mainly for football .
history
The club was founded in 1953 as Slavia Prague . In what was then Czechoslovakia , Slavia was eleven times basketball champion. Major European successes also fell during this period, such as winning the European Cup Winners' Cup , which Slavia won in 1969. Two years earlier, they failed in the final for this trophy.
In 1966, the club was even in the final of the most important European basketball cup , the European championship . This final they lost 72:77 against Olimpia Milano .
USK Prague, as the club has been called since 1995, is a founding member of the newly established Národní basketbalová liga (National Basketball League) , the highest league in the Czech Republic, from which they have never been relegated.
In 2000 and 2001 USK won its first two championship titles.
