USS Anzio
Two ships of the United States Navy bear the name USS Anzio . The ship's name derives from the Battle of Anzio in World War II, in which the Allies landed at the central Italian city of Anzio in early 1944 and held a bridgehead there until the liberation of Rome. The name was previously given to the following ships:
- USS Anzio (CVE-57) , an escorting aircraft carrier of Casablanca class , in service 1943-1956
- USS Anzio (CG-68) , a cruiser of the Ticonderoga-class cruiser , in service since 1992
