The USS Fox (DLG-33 / CG-33) was a guided missile cruiser of the Belknap class .

history

The ship was laid down at Todd Pacific Shipyards in 1963 and put into service with the US Navy in 1966 .

The Fox made its first five mission trips between 1967 and 1973 as part of the Vietnam War . There it served as a radar control center for combat aircraft that had taken off from the carriers and as a base for a CSAR helicopter.

In 1975, the Fox ran into the Indian Ocean, where it conducted exercises with the Royal Australian Navy and the Navy of Iran. Further trips led the ship to the Persian Gulf and the Red Sea, as well as the Sea of ​​Okhotsk . She was involved in rescuing Boat Peoples off Vietnam and took part in Operation Earnest Will . Until 1993, several missions in the Persian Gulf fell into the service time of the Fox .

In 1995 the cruiser was decommissioned and canceled in 2007.
