The UTA Pharma Beteiligung GmbH is a pharmaceutical wholesaler , which mainly invests in Eastern Europe in the pharmaceutical distribution and pharmacy chains. The finance and management holding company based in Grünstadt in the Bad Dürkheim district belongs to the Luxembourg financial holding Alpha Union Invest (AUI) at Dexia Banque Internationale and to the Merckle group of companies owned by the late Adolf Merckle .

If Phoenix Pharmahandel is not allowed to participate directly in individual pharmacies in Hungary and the Czech Republic for reasons of competition law, UTA Pharma has participated. In addition, tax law reasons are also suspected for these investments.

The managing director from 1999 to 2001 was Wolfgang Löschner, who was also chairman of the board of Pharma Nova RT in Budapest. In 2001 he was followed by Marko Grünewald, who was also an authorized signatory at Phoenix Pharmahandel . Wolfgang Wallisch has been managing director since June 2006.

From 1999/2000, UTA Pharma (then based in Eschborn / Ffm.) Bought smaller pharmacy chains and / or individual pharmacies in Budapest and Hungary as well as in the Czech Republic, and smaller activities also followed in Poland. The pharmacies in Hungary are grouped under the umbrella of Pharma Nova RT , which today is the largest pharmacy chain with 140 branches and 950 employees.

In 2001, Europharm as with 98 pharmacies and 740 employees was taken over in the Czech Republic . Europharm was founded in 1993 by the Austrian wholesaler Friedrich Jacoby . UTA Pharma also participated in the Reginna Pharma pharmacy chain .

At the beginning of 2006, Stefan Pflug, as the new Phoenix boss in Poland, declared that the Phoenix Group was not interested in pharmacies in Poland. However, in the first quarter of 2008 Phoenix bought its first 17 pharmacies in Poland.

As early as the 2004 financial year, the UTA Pharma holdings in Hungary and the Czech Republic generated sales of 450 million euros. A few polyclinics and health centers are also in operation.
