UTM / UPS Standardized Raster Product Specification

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The UTM / UPS Standardized Raster Product Specification (USRP) is a standard for the exchange of GIS data . It is part of the Digital Geographic Information Exchange Standard (DIGEST) and was developed by the Digital Geographic Information Working Group (DGIWG) from 1983 . The NATO countries were particularly involved . The project management for this standard was with France.

The underlying projections are UTM for most of the earth and UPS for the area around the North and South Poles. It is the counterpart to the ARC Standard Raster Product (ASRP), which is similar but uses the ARC projection.

The format can be read by programs such as ArcGIS and GDAL .
