UWE-2 ( U niversity of W ürzburgs E xperimentalsatellit 2) by UWE-1 , the second experimental satellite of the students of the University of Würzburg was built.

history

UWE-2 in the clean room

The satellite is a cube with a side length of 10 cm and a mass of 1 kg. On September 23, 2009 it was launched into polar orbit at an altitude of 730 km by an Indian PSLV rocket (PSLV-C14) together with OceanSat-2 and three other Cubesats . UWE-2 has not been sending any signals to earth for a long time. UWE-3 was launched as its successor on November 21, 2013 .

tasks

Its scientific objectives are

  • Tests for methods and algorithms for position determination,
  • Optimization of parameters to adapt Internet protocols to space conditions.

For this purpose, the satellite has, among other things, a GPS receiver as well as sun , magnetic field and inertial sensors on board. The data transmission to earth takes place on the frequency 437.385 MHz.
