Ubelluri

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Hurrian mythology, Ubelluri is the world giant that carries earth and sky. He is mentioned in the song of Ullikummi , after which he was visited by the god Ea . He told him about the stone monster Ullikummi, which threatened the gods. Ubelluri replied to Ea that when the world was built on him he felt nothing, even when earth and sky were cut apart with a copper sickle, he did not feel anything. But now his right shoulder hurts a little.

When Ea glanced at Ubelluri's shoulder, he saw the stone monster standing there. Ea then demanded the copper sickle from the “ancestral deities” and with this Ullikummi was cut off from Ubelluri's shoulder and rendered harmless.

A resemblance to the Greek Atlas is unmistakable.
