The Ubootkameradschaft Kiel e. V. (UK-Kiel) is the successor organization to the U-Boot-Kameradschaft Kiel, which was founded on November 29, 1919 as a non-registered association .

history

The comradeship was re-established in January 1955 as part of a gathering of former submariners in the "cafeteria" in Kiel. The Ubootkameradschaft Kiel e. V. is entered in the register of associations of the Kiel District Court under the number VR 1853. The comradeship belongs to the umbrella organization Verband Deutscher Ubootfahrer e. V. (VDU). The vast majority of the members of the comradeship now belong to the post-war generation and drive or sailed on submarines of today's German Navy.

Foundation, endowment

The UK-Kiel is the founder of the non-profit foundation U-Boot-Ehrenmal Möltenort . In order to be able to ensure the maintenance and preservation of the submarine memorial in Möltenort in the long term, the Ubootkameradschaft Kiel decided in 1975 to establish the foundation Uboot-Ehrenmal Möltenort with an initial endowment capital of 265,000 DM. The foundation finances its work exclusively Donate. The submarine memorial on the Möltenorter Schanze in Heikendorf near Kiel is dedicated to the memory of all submariners of the German navies who remained at sea and all victims of the submarine war. In the tour of the memorial, more than 35,000 names of fallen submariners from both world wars are recorded on bronze plaques. In recent years, however, a memorial plaque has also been placed with the names of the German submariners who died in submarine accidents in times of peace, including the names of the 19 comrades who died on September 14, 1966 when U-Hai sank . The builder and owner of the memorial complex is the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge e. V., with whom the foundation and indirectly also the submarine comradeship work on the care and maintenance of the submarine memorial.

aims

One of the main purposes of comradeship is to bring together former and active submariners, regardless of party political, ideological and religious ties. The Ubootkameradschaft Kiel still sees the work on the submarine memorial in Möltenort as one of its main tasks. Even today, the members meet every year for six large and two small work assignments at the memorial. They are supported in this by members of the other submarine comradeships in the VDU, but not least and in recent years more and more - by young, active submariners of the German Navy.
