Udo Schiefner (born August 7, 1959 in Kempen ) is a German SPD politician and has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2013 .

Life

After Schiefner had obtained his main qualification in 1974, he attended an elementary vocational school for one year, which he finished with the technical college entrance qualification with a focus on chemistry. He then trained as a chemical-technical assistant and worked until his election to the Bundestag as head of quality assurance at a Mönchengladbach brewery. In addition, there was a distance learning course to become a quality assurance technician at the Technical University of Applied Sciences in Berlin .

Schiefner is married and has one child.

Political career

In 1975 Schiefner joined the SPD, he has been its chairman in the Viersen district since 2002 and deputy chairman of the SPD Niederrhein since 2008 . Before that he was chairman of the SPD in Kempen-St. Hubert . For several years he was a member of the Kempen city council, where he was managing director and chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. In 2004 he moved into the district council of the Viersen district , from 2009 to December 2013 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group.

After he ran in vain for the Bundestag in the Bundestag election in 2009 , he managed to get into the state list of North Rhine Westphalia in 2013 . He ran both times for the direct mandate in the constituency of Viersen . He has been a member of the Committee for Transport and Digital Infrastructure since 2013, where he is deputy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group and the petitions committee . He is also a board member of the SPD parliamentary group.

In 2017 he was also re-elected via the state list. In the 19th electoral term he is the deputy spokesman for the transport and petition working groups of the SPD parliamentary group.

In the 18th electoral term, Schiefner was deputy chairman of the German-Dutch parliamentary group, which was not continued in the 19th electoral term. Since then, Schiefner has been a member of the Benelux and Central Asia parliamentary groups. Schiefner has been chairman of the toll affair investigation committee since December 2019 .

Schiefner volunteers in several organizations in his constituency and is a member of the advisory board of the drug aid organization Action medeor .
