The shore ball beetle ( Sphaerius acaroides ) is a beetle from the family of the ball beetles (Sphaeriusidae).

Occurrence

The shore ball beetle can often be found in the sand and in plant remains at the edges of water. Due to its small size of 0.50 to 0.75 millimeters, however, it is usually not seen or mistaken for a water mite. The scientific name is derived from the term "Acari", which means mite . Otherwise, very little is known about the way of life of the beetles and their larvae. In Europe, the shore ball beetle is the only species within the ball beetle family.
