Ufertbrut even Uffahrt-Brütli or Ufahrtbrut , symbolized in the Alemannic tradition in southern Germany the spring .

Especially in the Protestant communities of South Baden , the female figure appears in the form of a bride who, accompanied and singing spring songs, travels through the village and collects friendly gifts. She stands opposite the figure of Hisgier , who symbolizes winter.

Like Mardi Gras , both figures go back to ancient fertility rites to drive out winter.
