Ukrainian white steppe pig
The Ukrainian white steppe pig ( Ukrainian Українська степова біла Ukrajinska stepowa bila ) is a multi-purpose pig breed from Ukraine .
Breeding history
Under the direction of MF Iwanow, native South Ukrainian sows were crossed with Boars of the Large White breed in Askanija-Nowa . For the first time in the Soviet Union , a regional landrace was crossed with a performance breed - a principle that was to become established worldwide. In 1932 the breed was officially recognized.

- good adaptation to the continental climate of southern Ukraine
There are 15 boar lines and 55 sow families.
Occurrence
The main breeding centers are Askanija-Nova and Sywasch in Kherson Oblast and Zarya in Zaporizhia Oblast . The breed is also kept in Cherson Oblast, Zaporizhia Oblast, Odessa Oblast and Mykolaiv Oblast in Ukraine , but also in areas in Azerbaijan , Armenia , Turkmenistan and Moldova . The total number in 1980 was 524,200 purebred animals.
