from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich Dierkes (* 1956 ) is a German mathematician who deals with geometric analysis, nonlinear partial differential equations and the calculus of variations , especially minimal areas .

Dierkes received his doctorate in 1984 under Stefan Hildebrandt at the University of Bonn (singular variation problems and obstacle problems). He is a professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen . Together with Stefan Hildebrandt, he is the author of a multi-volume monograph on minimal surfaces in the series Basic Theories of Mathematical Sciences .

In 1996 he was invited speaker at the European Congress of Mathematicians in Budapest.
