history

The independence party up! was founded in 2014 by Simon Scherrer, Silvan Amberg and Brenda Mäder . The announcement received some media attention as Mäder was the former president of Jungfreisinnigen Schweiz .

In 2015, the party founded a Zurich cantonal section and ran unsuccessfully for the National Council with 0.07% of the vote.

In February 2018, the party again received greater media attention when Silvan Amberg and Simon Scherrer appeared on the Swiss political program "Arena" and called for the abolition of federal taxes.

Political positions

The party's vision is to reduce state activities to a minimum. The sole purpose of the state should be to protect the life, property, and freedom of its citizens.

The party puts an emphasis on its philosophical roots, which include self-ownership and the principle of non-aggression (NAP), and formulated these principles in its "policy paper".

Since its foundation, the party has advocated the abolition of subsidies (e.g. for culture), direct federal taxes, the beer tax, the compulsory old-age pension “ AHV ”, but also the liberalization of migration policy and the legalization of all drugs.

organization

The independence party up! is led by a board of directors which is elected annually by its active members with voting rights (so-called 'drivers') The board can establish local sections.

up! was only active in German-speaking Switzerland, but also has a French website.

The party has confirmed several times that it will only run for legislative elections and will not seek executive office.
