She completed a semester abroad at the University of Economics in Prague . From February 2010 to April 2012 she headed the Jungfreisinnigen Switzerland as president and was a member of the party leadership of the FDP Switzerland and the FDP Thurgau. She ran for the FDP for the National Council in the Swiss parliamentary elections in 2011 and won the first substitute for the FDP of the Weinfelden district in the 2012 Grand Council elections .

Political activity

Contrary to the official slogan of Jungfreisinnigen Schweiz, Brenda Mäder supported the federal popular initiative “Yes to the abolition of compulsory military service” , which was rejected on September 22, 2013 by 73.2 percent of the voters and all cantons.

Together with Simon Scherrer, President of the Young Liberals of St. Gallen, and Silvan Amberg from Zurich, former President of the FDP's homosexual organization, she founded the independence party up !. The goal of their national party is to work for more freedom and fewer regulations. Mäder disagrees with many of the FDP's opinions, for example she supported the Federal People's Initiative to repeal compulsory military service, and she also thinks the FDP is not radical enough. This led to the establishment of the independence party up !.

The independence party up! was founded on June 18, 2014. Mäder led the presidium together with Scherrer and Amberg. First of all, they wanted to be active in the cantons of Thurgau, St. Gallen and Zurich. Mäder did not seek executive positions. On February 27, 2016, Mäder resigned from the up! back.
