The Underdog Cru was a 1995-2003 existing Rostock in German rapping hip-hop group.

history

Olaf Nückel, later to be alias "Mas Massive" grew, began writing lyrics in 1991, which he simple beat - Loops rapped. When he met DJ Joaf, who lives in his Reutershagen district , in 1992/1993 through their shared passion for FC Hansa Rostock , the hobby took off, because Loaf shared his musical preference and owned technical equipment that enabled musical experiments. They called themselves "street boys" and fabricated in home recording style of free Beat sequences of CDs and video games more complex than in Loops Nückels beginning of time over which they rapped and cutteten what then tape was recorded. With the purchase of additional equipment, they gained experience with turntable technology , sometimes individually, sometimes together, sometimes assisted by curious friends . Since no one else from the clique could make friends with hip-hop and they developed into outsiders who accepted their first engagements as support DJs, they decided to change their name to "Underdog Cru".

In 1995 Homez from neighboring Rostock- Evershagen joined the company. Like many other youngsters from the GDR , he had seen the film Beat Street in the mid-1980s and had been infected with the Bronx virus ever since . The development of the songs was now easier with the three of them. One of the most elaborate pieces made it in 1997 on the North Side Connection - Sampler . Finally, in mid 1996 was on the Stralsund Mini Label Posin-music of rapper Pussi only 3000 DM production costs comprising debut maximum will be published. Initially in self-distribution, then with the sales company EFA in the back, over 6,000 copies were sold. A whole series of other sampler contributions followed, as well as various appearances, including with five stars deluxe or the East German showcase hip-hoppers Tefla & Jaleel . In 2000 he switched to the SPV sub-label Punchline Records, where the EP V.IP - Zu many Hip Hop Starz was released in November . A year later, the Cru completed a tour in German-speaking countries with the Londoners Mark B & Blade , expanded by the then still unknown rapper Marteria . In March 2002 the long-planned yet postponed album Too much of the good was released. Marteria is then guest on two tracks, but not on the 12 "single Boombastisch , which uses a sample from Boss Whistler by Roger Whittaker . Marteria continued to support the group live until they split up in 2003.

style

Laut.de described the music as “groovy tracks” with “optimistic rhymes” and “fresh beats”, but also made a “somewhat gloomy variant”. Allesreal.de described it as a “varied mixture of relaxed, critical or thoughtful tones” that sometimes came across as “gloomy”, sometimes “melancholy”, sometimes “aggressive”, sometimes “club-friendly”. However, work has to be done on the flow . Hiphop.de is talking about an embarrassingly weak CD start. The 20 songs alternated between critical, gloomy and fun, but the puns were "sometimes very forced". Overall, there was at least a further development in terms of atmosphere, content and rhymes. Rp-online also reported on the “stupid” intro and its “half-baked” follow-up pieces, only that this review was completely negative. To hear is a "tough churn" with tried rhymes. Programming skills alone would not be enough, musical skills are just as much a part of good hip-hop.
