The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP for short) aims to introduce Bachelor students to their own research activities at an early stage. The program is offered by many universities in the United States , including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology or the University of California, Irvine .

In Europe, Imperial College London and RWTH Aachen University offer UROP programs for students in their first years of study. In particular, foreign students from Canada or the USA are intended to establish research contacts with educational and research institutions in North America.

At the ETH Zurich , the idea of the UROP program was adopted on a student initiative and the SiROP web platform was set up for cross-university and cross-border communication of scientific projects.
