Underground (club)
The Underground from 1988 to September 2017 Club and venue in the former industrial area Cologne-Ehrenfeld . It consisted of a pub, two halls and a summer beer garden. The halls were mainly used for parties and concerts on weekends. The focus was on heavy metal , rock and punk . For a few years now, rock 'n' roll has also been in the foreground. The motto of the organizers was: We deliver rock 'n' roll .
The underground was built on a former factory site in the area of the former Helios AG and until the turn of the millennium also housed a laundromat . There was also a rental workshop with several lifting platforms for working on motor vehicles and a tattoo studio on the site .
The Westdeutsche Rundfunk has recorded several concerts in the underground that were broadcast on the Rockpalast program. The capacity was 800 guests (400 club + 400 pub plus a small club).
After 29 years, the club closed with one last concert on September 15, 2017, after which the building was demolished. Buildings for the “Helios School - Inclusive University School” are to be built by 2022.
At the end of July 2017, the city of Cologne gave the operators of the underground a permit for events until January 2019 in the DQE hall near the former location of the location.

Individual scenes of the television films Tatort " Bombenstimmung " (1997) and Schimanski " Tödliche Liebe " (2000) produced for WDR play in the underground and were also shot there.
