Accident blackspot

A focus of accidents (also known as accident accumulation point , UHS for short) is a junction or a short stretch of road where the number of the same types of accidents , the same types of accidents or the same causes of accidents exceed a certain value. However, this value is not set uniformly and is assessed differently in each country. The evaluation and analysis of road traffic accidents as part of the local accident investigation is fundamental for determining an accident focus . The accident card created in this context clearly shows the main accident areas.

In contrast, the road-related key figure is the so-called accident rate , in which the number of traffic accidents is divided by the length of the road and the average traffic volume.

Accident black spots indicate clear safety deficits at a junction or a route section and must be closely observed or checked in order to improve road safety.
