Francisco Ribeiro (musician)

Francisco Ribeiro (born March 15, 1965 in Lisbon , Portugal , † September 14, 2010 ibid) was a Portuguese musician . As a co-founder and cellist of the group " Madredeus " he was also responsible as a composer and songwriter .

Life

Ribeiro was born in Lisbon. In 1986 he and others founded the group Madredeus , which became known beyond the borders of Portugal and in 1994 contributed the soundtrack to the Wim Wenders film Lisbon Story .

In 1997 he left the group and moved to the UK . There he was a member of the Stroud Symphony Orchestra and the Glouchester Symphony Orchestra in 2002/2003. 2006 he returned to Portugal. In 2009 his first and only solo album A juncao do Bem was released .

Ribeiro was involved as a cellist, singer, composer and songwriter on the following albums: Os dias de Madredeus , Existir , O espirito da Paz , Ainda (soundtrack from Wenders Lisbon Story ). He wrote various songs, such as Os senhores da Guerra and Pregao (O Espirito da Paz) or A cidade e os campos (Ainda, text and music).

With the song Pregao he also had a solo appearance in the documentary Madredeus in the Azores .

On September 14, 2010, at the age of 45, he died of complications from cancer and was laid out in the church of Nossa Senhora da Fatima. He was buried in the Olivais Cemetery in Lisbon.
