Sudanese Union

The Sudanese Union (also Sudanese Union - African Democratic Collection, abbreviation US-RDA, French Union Soudanaise or Union Soudanaise - Rassemblement Démocratique Africain ) is a Malian political party.

history

The party was founded in 1945 by Mamdou Konaté and Modibo Keita under the name Sudanese Bloc (Bloc Soudanais) . The following year she worked with the African Democratic Collection (RDA), the inter-territorial coalition of anti-colonial Pan-African parties active in French West Africa .

In 1956, the US RDA won the National Assembly elections in French Sudan . With Konaté's death in 1958, Keita was given full control of the party.

After the independence of the Mali Federation (or the Sudanese Republic ) in 1960, the US-RDA established itself as the only legal party in the country; however, the party was officially dissolved after the coup by Moussa Traoré . For the next two decades the US-RDA could only operate underground and in 1990 the party joined the growing democracy movement against Traoré's authoritarian rule and became part of the Alliance for Democracy in Mali (ADEMA).

In 1992 Tiéoulé Konaté made an unsuccessful attempt as a presidential candidate for the US RDA and was defeated by Alpha Oumar Konaré from ADEMA.

In 1998 the US-RDA split into two factions, the dissenting members followed in 2001 Daba Diawara and founded the Independence, Democracy and Solidarity Party (PIDS).

In the parliamentary elections in July 2007, the party was re-elected to the National Assembly of Mali and won a seat.

Mamadou Bamou Touré is the current party president of the US RDA.
