The Union of the Peoples of Cameroon ( French Union des populations du Cameroun , English Union of the Peoples of Cameroon , abbreviation UPC ) is a political party in Cameroon , founded on April 10, 1948 in a café in Douala-Bassa called "Zu Sierra".

It was a section of the West African colonial party Rassemblement Démocratique Africain . The party published the La Voix du Cameroun , Lumière , Étoile and the Vérité .

history

The party founders are: Jacques Ngom , Assale Charles William Hondt , Joseph Raymond Etoundi , Leopold Mouma Etia Georges Yemi , Theodore William Ngosso Bagala , Leonard Bouli , Emmanuel Yap , Jacques-René Bidoum and HR Manga Mado . Ruben Um Nyobé did not participate.

The party campaigned for the independence of the African peoples in the British-French colony of Cameroon and defended itself against the oppression by the colonial powers with a petition to the UN .

Today it is almost insignificant, in the - albeit controversial - presidential election in Cameroon 2011 , its candidate only received 0.17% of the vote.
