The Bushman Paradise ( English Bushman Paradise ) is an area near the Great Spitzkoppe in Namibia . It is a historical settlement area with rock formations and a cave system . The place is named after the San (the English or German foreign name was at times Bushman or Bushman). Since July 1, 1954, the area has been a National Monument .
Rock paintings and cave system
In Bushman Paradise has some of the most famous cave paintings of southern Africa , but by vandalism were badly damaged. The age of the paintings is estimated to be 4400 BC. Chr. To 100 years n. Chr. Appreciated. The most famous drawings are in the main cave, with isolated paintings also in the sinuses.
The cave system was discovered in 1917 by the archaeologist Ernst Reuning , the first European. He also carried out the first archaeological investigations on the rock paintings. 31 years later, the archaeologist Henri Breuil carried out extensive research on the large paintings in the main cave. Shortly afterwards, the German archaeologist Scherz described the individual images in detail, including mainly animals and a sphinx.
