Union des Artistes Modernes

The Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) was an avant-garde association of architects and designers founded in France in 1929 and active until 1958 .

In addition to the textile artist Hélène Henry , in whose apartment (7 Quai des Grands Augustins) the Union was founded, one of the founding members who had left the Société des artistes décorateurs (SAD) because of fundamental differences of opinion were the architects Francis Jourdain (1876-1958 ), Robert Mallet-Stevens (1886–1945) and René Herbst (1891–1982) and the interior designer Charlotte Perriand (1903–1999). A short time later, Pierre Chareau (1883–1950), Louis Sognot (1892–1969), Charlotte Alix , Jean Burkhalter , Jean Prouvé (1901–1984), Jean Puiforcat (1897–1945) and Alberto Sartoris ( 1901–1984) appeared. 1998) joined the artists' association.

The first UAM exhibition took place in 1930 at the Musée des Arts décoratifs (Paris) .
