The United Grinding Group , formerly Körber Schleifring , is an international mechanical engineering company. The companies in the group produce grinding, laser and eroding machines for hard fine machining and the associated services, and the United Grinding Group, with its eight corporate brands, is one of the world market leaders.
history
In 1978 Hauni AG (later Körber AG ) took over the Hamburg grinding machine manufacturer Blohm, and in 1993 the international Schleifring Group was formed under the umbrella of Körber Schleifring GmbH. In addition to the Berliner Werkzeugmaschinenfabrik GmbH (BWF), the Chemnitz grinding machine factory, Schaudt Maschinenbau GmbH and Mikrosa Werkzeugmaschinen GmbH, the group also included the two Swiss companies Mägerle AG Maschinenfabrik and Fritz Studer AG.
Further expansions followed. In 1994 the Chinese sales and service office in Beijing and the American sales and service company (UGT) were opened. The Schleifring offices in Shanghai followed in 1995 and in Chongqing in 1997 .
In 2004 the Körber Schleifring Machinery Co. Ltd. (KSMT) in Taicang, China and integrated the machine tool business of Walter AG with the establishment of Walter Maschinenbau GmbH (2004). Due to the increasing internationalization of Körber Schleifring GmbH, the company changed its name in 2012 and became the United Grinding Group based in Bern, Switzerland. In 2018, the United Grinding Group was sold by Körber AG to a strategically oriented pool of investors organized by BZ Bank Aktiengesellschaft. In the 2017 financial year, the group generated sales of around EUR 610 million at more than 20 locations and with more than 2,400 employees.
