The UN Medal ( United Nations Medal ) is, along with the Captain Mbaye Diagne Medal and the Dag Hammarskjöld Medal , one of three awards by the United Nations that is awarded to people who participate in the international humanitarian, military or police UN Participated in missions .

Award requirements

The medal is awarded to people who, depending on the mission, have participated in UN missions for at least 30 days, 1 month, 2 months, 3 months or 6 months.

design

There are three different versions of the UN medal. All medals are round and bronze in color.

  • On the front of the standard medal is the emblem of the United Nations with the word UN , on the back the word IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE . The ribbon is in the colors of the respective mission.
  • On the front of the medal for the participants in the Korean War is the emblem of the United Nations, on the back the writing FOR SERVICE IN THE DEFENSE OF THE PRINCIPLES OF THE CHARTER OF THE UNITED NATIONS . There is a clasp with the words KOREA on the blue and white vertical striped ribbon .
  • On the front of the UNEF medal is the emblem of the United Nations with the word UNEF , on the back the word IN THE SERVICE OF PEACE .

The ribbon buckles have a width of about 3 centimeters and the colors of the ribbon of the respective mission.
