The Navy Medical Service Corps is part of the United States Navy medical service . The NMSC was founded on August 4, 1949, following a decree of the US Congress . The 2,600 officers working for the NMSC are responsible for the administration and supply of the medical services of the US Navy. The NMSC is currently divided into the following sections:

• administration
• Optometry ( ophthalmology )
• applied Sciences
• pharmacy
