The United States Range is the northernmost mountain range in the world. It forms part of the Arctic Cordillera and runs in the northeast region of Ellesmere Island in Nunavut , Canada .
At 1,850 m, Mount Eugene is the highest mountain in the chain. Immediately to the west is the British Empire Range .
The mountain range was named after the ship of the American explorer Isaac Israel Hayes in 1861 .
