The Nueva Granada Military University (Spanish: Universidad Militar Nueva Granada), also known as UMNG, is a public institution of higher education. The university is located in Bogotá ( Colombia ).
history
The origins go back to 1962. The school was founded as the military school "José María Córdova" for additional higher education of cadets in the fields of engineering, economics and law. In 1978 a medical faculty was added to the range of courses .
The university reached its full development phase in 1980 and was named a military academy (university) by the Federal Ministry of Defense by Legislative Decree 84/80 . With another decree of 23 July 1982, the university was under the name of Universidad Militar "Nueva Granada" as a University recognized. In 1992 it was affiliated to the Ministry of National Defense and was commissioned to concentrate on the legal area in order to return to its origins.
In January 1984 the company moved to its current location.
In March 2003 the legal form was changed by Law 805 of 2003 and made an independent entity of the National Universities of Colombia. The main objective of the institution is to promote higher education for the Colombian Armed Forces and national police and defense policies in general. The same law gave the Nueva Granada academic and administrative self-government and its own budget.
Nueva Granada Military University is now a public university. It serves teaching and research and is dedicated to the consolidation of university education in Colombian society.

future plans
In order to obtain national and international accreditation, doctoral courses are to be offered in the future. In general, all courses should be adapted to international systems and certified according to various ISO guidelines.
