The Universidad Nacional Santiago Antúnez de Mayolo (UNASAM) is a state-recognized university and is based in Huaraz . It has 11 faculties and 63 courses (25 preparatory courses, 28 masters and 10 doctorates).

In the second semester of 2018, the university had 405 lecturers, 75% of whom were permanent. 185 had a master's degree and 118 had a doctorate. The other members of the faculty prepared for the master’s degree.
