List of universities in Peru

This is a list of universities in Peru broken down by department . The universities are supervised by the Superintendencia Nacional de la Educacion (SUNEDU). It also approves the courses offered by educational institutions. Each university has its own admission procedure. The law that regulates the admission of universities defines a minimum quality standard. There are currently 143 universities in Peru, four times more than there were in 1980. 61 of them are now officially recognized. State recognition is valid for six years and only applies to certain courses. SUNEDU published a ranking of the universities in 2018. The criterion for the classification was a. how often scientific publications from universities were cited in specialist journals. The list below shows their rank (only 1 to 10 are listed). The addition SUNEDU means that it is a state-recognized university. Graduates from Pontificia (S / 5109) earn the most, followed by Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria (S / 4794) and Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (S / 4201)
