Hitachi campus

The university was founded in 1949 through the merger of the four state schools. The four were the Mito high school ( 水 戸 高等学校 , Mito kōtō gakkō , founded in 1920), the normal school Ibaraki ( 茨城 師範学校 , Ibaraki shihan gakkō , founded 1874), the youth normal school Ibaraki ( 茨城 青年 師範学校 , Ibaraki his shihan gakkō , founded in 1903) and the Taga Technical Center ( 多 賀 工業 専 門 学校 , Taga kōgyō semmon gakkō in Hitachi , founded in 1939).

The university opened with three faculties: humanities and natural sciences (in Mito), education (in Mito) and engineering (in Hitachi). The Mito campus is the former military base of the Imperial Japanese Army , which has been home to Mito High School since 1948; the high school lost its school buildings in the Pacific War in 1945 (it then lost the dormitory in a fire in 1946 ). The Hitachi campus is the former campus of the Taga Technical Center, which was run by Hitachi Ltd. at state expense and with a donation (then 3 million yen) . Corporation was established.

In 1952, the former Ibaraki Prefectural Agricultural College ( 茨城 県 立 農科 大学 , Ibaraki-kenritsu nōka daigaku in Ami ) became the Faculty of Agricultural Science. The college was founded in 1946 as a private agricultural college Kasumigaura ( 霞 ヶ 浦 農科 大学 , Kasumigaura nōka daigaku ) in order to peacefully use a former military airfield . In 1947, severe inflation reduced the College Foundation's assets and the college became a prefectural college in 1949. Your campus is now the Ami campus.
